PC 2020-0795 Minimizing the Risk of Exposure to COVID-19 in Canada Order – Prohibition of Entry into Canada from the United States

This Order, except section 5.1, has effect for the period beginning at 23:59:59 p.m. EDT on the day on which it is made and ending at 23:59:59 p.m. EDT on October 21, 2020. Section 5.1 has effect for the period beginning at 23:59:59 p.m. EDT on October 20, 2020, and ending at 23:59:59 p.m. EDT on October 21, 2020. Repealed by PC 2020-0810.

Overview:

This order is to (1) support Canada’s continued focus on reducing the introduction and further spread of COVID-19 by decreasing the risk of importing cases from outside the country; (2) continue to prohibit entry into Canada of foreign nationals arriving from the U.S. for an optional or discretionary purpose, with some limited exceptions, and if they have reasonable grounds to suspect they have COVID-19, if they have signs and symptoms of COVID-19, or if they know they have COVID-19; (3) allow the entry of extended family members of a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident; (4) allow entry on compassionate grounds; (5) allow the entry of students to attend a listed institution, effective October 20, 2020; and (6) make non-substantive administrative amendments for clarity.
